IRON (ungrouped)
Plessitic Octaherite

TKW: 75.3 kilos

The microstructural class of this iron is Plessitic Octahedrite (OPl).  This is the type of meteorite with the highest percentage of nickel (between 40-50%).  This alloy is called tetrataenite.  The  tetrataenite surrounds kamacite needles.  This meteorite exhibits  shock that can be produced by a collision.  Kamacite needles characterize a Widmanstätten pattern.  The needles have a low Ni/Fe ratio (~6%).  The taenite grains (white areas) have a high concentration of nickel (25-60%).  Due to a very high concentration of germanium, this ,meteorite does not fit into previously defined classses, and is classified as "ungrouped".
